Digital images in competitions

Sun Jun 08, 2008 @ 05:52AM

Now that the RPS is accepting digital images should the club not follow suit? This would involve some investment - perhaps our own projector and laptop? Then does one get a PC or Mac? Should the use of the laptop be limited to club use?
The RPS has guidelines for entries as follows -
On a CD in RGB format in the sRGB colour space in maximum quality .JPG format even if monochrome. Images to be a maximum of 1024 pixels wide and 768 pixels high.
Each entry category in a separate folder and each folder titled surname, christian name, distinction - e.g Darbishire_Duncan_ARPS - and within the folder each image to be titled - number title.jpg - e.g 1 Sunset Walney.jpg .
The CD to be labelled, preferably with indelible marker pen, with the name of the entrant and the competition. Where there are multiple entrants on one CD this to be clearly stated on the CD.
Digital images could be included in the 'slide' competitions category or as a separate category.

I think the club needs to get up to speed on this one and make sure every member is fully briefed on the requirements, and try some "dry runs" for members whoe aren,t familiar with the computing side.
Laptop PC,s are cheaper, perhaps the major funding should be for a good quality projector. I,m assuming these would be insured so leasing out to members for a small fee might be an option for members.
Do we still have a problem with the maximum image size for portrait format 768 maximum image length.

I do not see a way around this yet - might depend on the projector we get?
